Mgahinga gorilla national park is located in the southwest part of Uganda in Kisoro district bordering Rwanda and the democratic republic of Congo.it is the smallest national park in Uganda covering 33.7sqkm .it was gazetted as a national park in 1991 to protect the endangered mountain gorilla and the golden monkeys. Mgahinga gorillas park is part of the large Virunga national park conservation area and Rwanda’s volcanoes national park. The park consists partly of the forested slopes of 3 extinct Virunga volcanoes: mount muhavura, mount gahinga, and mount sabinyo with altitudes of 4127m, 3473m and 3654m respectively.it is the only place in Uganda sheltering the endangered golden monkeys and therefore famous for tracking golden monkey

Mgahinga gorillas national park is a small national park but very impressive with an enchanting nature work of art.it is encompassed by amazing scenery formed by lakes, rivers, volcanic mountain views, cool weather and green hills. It harbors a variety of wildlife species including endangered mountain gorillas and golden monkeys, forest elephants, buffaloes, duikers, bushbucks, golden cats, side stripped jackals among others

Activities that can be done include gorilla trekking, golden monkey tracking, hiking, cultural experience, nature walks, and birding. The weather in this park is influenced by its varying altitude. Generally, the temperatures are low and making it the coldest place. the best place to visit is during the dry months of June to September and December to February when the trails are less slippery.

Tours to Mgahinga can be planned to start from either Kampala /Entebbe (Uganda) or Rwanda .it takes a 9hour drive from Kampala and 4 hours from Kigali (Rwanda) by road and by air scheduled flights to Kisoro from Entebbe are available (1-hour flight).

Depending on one’s budget, there are many lodge and hotel options close to the park and within Kisoro.
