Jinja dubbed the “adventure capital” is found in eastern Uganda.it is one of the largest cities in Uganda, an oasis of tranquility located on the shores of Lake Victoria and hosts the source of the Nile River. it lies 1171m above sea level. The numerous Jinja attractions and adventure activities have seen this city drawing people from around the world throughout the year.
Jinja is home to the source of the longest river in the world. From Lake Victoria in Jinja, the Nile flows through several countries to reach its final destination in the Mediterranean Sea in Egypt. Using a speed boat, tourists can ride to reach the exact spot considered to be the source of the Nile River. Nature is a wonder; the waters of the (Nile) River can be seen as separated from that of the Lake (Victoria). John Speke was the first European to explore the source of the Nile.
Itanda Falls is a spectacular set of rapids formed on the river Nile in Jinja and are very powerful. Sight-seeing enthusiasts imagine river Nile with all its force unleashed. The Itanda Falls site is stunning and bewildering and out of Jinja city, reaching Itanda Falls can be after 30-40 minutes.
Busowoko Falls are beautiful falls formed by the river Nile in Jinja. They are found in bususwa/bukongo village in kitanaba just after namavundu forest 19km off Jinja city and approximately 81km east of Kampala. There is a lot of adventure including white rafting, tubing, water massaging, camping, bird watching, filming, and photo shooting sites.
The Uganda railway museum is a collection of railway remains that was constructed in 1928 by the British colonial government.it is located at Jinja-Iganga Highway. It was opened in March 2022 and its tours involve watching a short film on the history of the railway in Uganda, a train experience in a restored but stationed locomotive coach. There is also a developing crafts market from where guests can buy souvenirs.
Jinja was a small fishing village that benefited from being located on long distance trade routes. The word “Jinja “means rock. This originated from the two tribes that lived on either side of the river Nile i.e. the Basoga on the southern bank and the Baganda on the northern bank
